Fruits Basket 2019
I found some interesting genre in danmei novel which is pretty mainstream in chinese danmei novel world but kind of different in other form BL
One storyline that i find quite a lot in danmei chinese novel compared to regular bl manga or other platform was the reborn/rebirth genre where the main character will die and regain a new life and adventure. If you have read the manhwa “Geu Kkeute Issneun Geos” (What Lies in the End) or watch taiwan drama “HIStory 1 : Obsessed” it is either something like that or with a little twist
Let me start introducing this genre starting with some of the generic terms/tag introduced in this fandom
This tag is used if the protagonist inhabits an existing person’s body after migrating across worlds. It differs from reincarnation in that the person is not literally born again. (novelupdates)
one of my most favorite Novel of this genre was FENG YU JIU TIAN (Phoenix of the Nine Heavens), which i still think its super epic and exciting super recommended for people to read. I already have a dedicated blog review for this novel
This is an example of my favourite story when the rebirth character not just get reborn in the same existing world (past or future or different person) but he experience Interdimensional travel where his soul transmigrate into other lives in different dimension. The other dimension can be a fantastical ancient china, a futuristic scify world, post apocalyptic world, a novel plot , or an otome-ish game
Reading some these novel i’m guessing that lot of fans are fond of the world of RPG games
english translation : https://cnoveluv.wordpress.com/projects/the-scum-villains-self-saving-system/
Can’t I read stallion novels anymore?! [TN: genre with OP protag & harem]
Shen Yuan is reborn into a young man and scum villain destined to die, Shen Qingqiu.
But it must be known that the original Shen Qingqiu was sliced alive by his disciple, Luo Binghe, into a human stick! A human stick!
Shen Qingqiu’s heart is a full herd of grass mud horses running full tilt, yet:
“It’s not like I don’t want to hug this main character’s thighs, but who let this fucking man be so black. The revenge that needs to be taken is some thousands of deeds!
Why is all the romance that should be going to the women in the plot imposed on him?
Why as a scum villain, should he still have to block gun and knife for the protagonist and sacrifice himself?
Shen Qingqiu: “…… _(:□)∠)_I think I can still save him one more time.”
He wants to prove – even scum villains can live, and live coolly at that!
It’s also the story of a small white flower who later became a black flower attacking a scholarly, scum villain type.
This is the story of a master and disciple’s everyday unknowing, very strange, dog-blood process of falling in love.
It’s also a scum villain’s firsthand account of the male protagonist turning from a small white sheep into an overbearing black king, sort of story……
if you are as confused as i was reading the summary this web gives better review >>http://bcnovels.com/the-scum-villains-self-saving-system-review/ and also translated 2 other novel with similar genre
why i say this story is similiar to RPG cause in this kind of story the MC usually is guided by a System which is sometime is like a voice inside their head who tells him what to do
and sometime they give them a mission that they must accomplish to gain higher level
Where the Main character gains access to an “admin” system that allows them to have more control/abilities than regular people and people that have the non-admin system.
Almost always together with the level system tag.
This tag is used when the characters of the novel improve their abilities/skills/power by leveling up.
Beside that this novel is also falls into category of Xianxia or Wuxia which is a ancient chinese martial art stories. something like : “Return of the Condor Heroes” which i enjoy watching as a kid
Xianxia is a story with cultivation that can lead to a human becoming immortal through Taoist (in most cases) ways. If it doesn’t mention the dao, odds are that it isn’t a Xianxia.
Cultivation is form of meditation or training to achieve new ability
(note Indonesian: kalau di indonesia kaya bertapa/semedi)
This is a genre specific to Chinese novels. It literally means [Martial Hero], dealing with martial arts and chivalry. Main character can’t become an immortal, but rather stays human.
I think The Scum Villain Self Saving System is very very popular since they have so many pretty fanart, or was it the official art already very pretty.
The main character design:
This story is already very interesting with all these aspect the fandom discover another new sub genre which is multiple realms, where the MC travel form realms to realms usually to complete a mission
This tag is used if there exists different realms other than the one which protagonist rises from.
Now an example of these kind of story that i currently found which was very good was
“I curse you to never die in peace!”
Thus, Shang Ke started a never-ending (forced) cycle of constantly throwing away his miserable life.
He would always show himself as a martyr while letting others cry over his death.
It was because of a woman’s curse that Shang Ke was hit by a car and turned into a human vegetable. This led to him becoming bound by an unlucky system in which he was cursed to die. The most unfortunate part was that he never cheated on anyone’s feelings. The reason for why he was cursed by a woman was because of a guy named Qi Chen. Qi Chen was a ladies man, and he would always use Shang Ke as an excuse to break up with any woman that he was with. As a result, Shang Ke was always blamed for the breakups. Since then, the main character could only be forced to cross into different worlds. He would thus experience for himself, the hero’s “thrill”.
This story is GOOOOOD i’m very addicted to the plot, a good portion of angst and fluffyness for my taste. I really love this idea of multiple realms. While the MC kept dying for his sacrifice and the love between the MC and ML grow in each passing life i’m always looking forward for the next fresh plot.
Now i want to point out the good point of this stories which is even i you take out all the BL aspect from the storyline, the plot itself already very interesting. In comparison to if you take out much BL from a Chai Ji Dan popular novel it became very dull, like what happened to advance bravely live action version.
On the other hand in the fandom there more of the similar stories than what i could stomach, and it can be very boring especially if the author decide to complicate the story too much , too much system explanation , too much leveling, to much cultivation to gain better skill, and too much everything
i think in the end if its BL the reader would like more fluff and moe between the MC and ML rather than those mumbo jumbo
So balanced story between the two would be exactly my taste
Do you read this kind of novel? if you have some recommendation do let me know cause i’m still searching for a great story
A while back i was reading a manga , this manga> http://www.mangago.me/read-manga/boku_no_mama_chan_43_kaihatsu_nikki/
here i learn about the term RPF and as i was reading about it i got the inspiration to write this post
What is rpf ?
RPF or Real People Fiction is when you paired two real living person wether they are an actor, an idol or plain public figures, and make a romantic fiction out of them
in japan they called it namamono or raw stuff, pretty cool terms huh?
more through definition and explanation you could find in this wikipedia page>> https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Real_person_fiction
and so i was reading the wikipedia page for RPF and i discover some people are repulsed / hate this kind of things. Trying to be open minded i keep reading trying to understand why it is wrong according to their POV
I think the have some points that i couldnt disagree. It makes me think and reevaluate my action as an avid shipper of real person myself and i would like to write about it
but first lets rewind again about the subject
starters for the beginners you could check video below for some basic subject like shipping and otp and how it began
history of subtext
first movie ship
it become RPF when the fans start shipping the real actor with each other instead of their character in the movie. Shipping William Shatner and Leonard Nimoy instead of Kirk and Spock. Shipping benedict cumberbatch and martin freeman instead of sherlock and watson (this i think inspired boku no mamachan story line btw)
and so moving forward then for the asia fandom first there were idols from korea of japan usually members of boyband (or girl band)
i dont know which came first wether its the fans objectify two members of the group, or the bands (or company behind them) that notice that girls love this kind of love line and start to use it as fanservice
maybe i think the first time was from the rock scene of Japan , where band mates would kiss each other in the mouth, hugging and carresing each other as their gimmick of live performance entertainment
in japan they called this thing member-ai or love and bonding between fellow member of a group and this is a really good marketing strategy and commercialized it hard, after korea also picking up on this and take it a mile further.
some articles of the subject of commercialization
Now as you might notice from example above lots of the pairing are of the same gender and yes a large portion of this is are gay fiction and male x male pairing.
Sometimes the shipper or these rpf creators really do believe that this couple they are shipping is together in real life romantically.
Hell i also do! I could swear to GOD that QingYu is a match made in heaven real couple, i dont care i really do believe that even them neither of them have coming out or admit it yet :p
and please its no use to convince us or me otherwise, so just ship with all your heart content girls
But what are the boundaries?
Now i’m a hard fujoshi and i loveee my rpf otp and dirty fanfic
but sometimes it bothers me when the fans seems to forget to respect the otp as a person
one thing that i often find that the sometimes disregard the bottom/uke in the pairing as a mean and objectives them as a women and perhaps even lower.
from what i know in my limited knowledge of my gay friends, most gay even tho they are a bottom they are really uncomfortable being viewed as a girl or even feminine, even if we could see some feminine traits in their behaviour. Majority they still wish to be regarded as man, it doesnt apply when the bottom is non gender binary or transgender how ever ((in which case it not a gay relationship) or if the guy does enjoy being viewed as girl aesthetic wise (like cross dresser for example)
I think thats the main reason why asking who is the ‘women’ in the relationship, who wear pants, and who is the bottom be considered rude to be asked of a gay couple and most of them doesnt like to answer.
now in this we can analyze also why is it that bad to be considered ‘girly’ and ‘feminine’?
i guess its because we were thought that way for such a long time that masculine is superior and ‘feminine’ is inferior.
so i really hope fan could take notes of that and be aware of the way we treats them.
This is different than a fictional character that we could bend the way we want too, this is not an omegaverse reality where they are alpha and omega either
it good really bad also when the fans force their fantasies and insist it in every way possible until it totally disrespect the person privacy
the most obvious incident was when yunjae fans , display a yunjae NSFW/rated banner in a JYJ concert
i coudnt find the real pictures anymore but the report are pretty much here >
it got so big that it appears in the china news the next day
i am a YJS you can see it clearly but honey that not how you should treat your idol or a person, thats a public humiliation and bullying if i may say, thats not love
especially when yunho and jaejoong was already separated as a group.
as you are reading this you may think wow this whole shipping and rpf thing is horrible, why am i even doing it.
Sorry but this is my kinks and my pleasure i couldnt explain but not all of this thing are bad
it ignites creativity, induces understanding, compassion and then support to the sexual minority rights
if we could be wise enough to mind our boundaries and still respect our source of admiration its a great thing actually
Its funny how suddenly random topic bring back a lot of memories this late of a night
okay since i feel like writing about it today i would like to share stories about my firstS
My first anime crush was TRUNKS from Dragon Ball
this was the first thing that pop in my mind tonite seeing a random Saiyan dance on youtube my friend share LOL
i fell in love with this particular illustration
i saw a poster of this illustration and think aww he is kind a hot,
especially that purple hair !
back then purple was my favourite color and that kind of hairstyle was hot
like my idols back then , andy lau, jimmy lin and aaron kwok
anyway i also remember there was a boy whom my brother think kinda look like jimmy lin (probably just because he was chinese) who had a crush on me, the first and only one time a boy made a move on me. It didnt turn out really well LOL maybe for the best
My first shoujo manga that led me to manga and japanese content obsession was Min Min (Yu Asagiri) and Asarichan
that time me and my parents when to a book store and i bought that manga in a bundle
i was fascinated to see kiss scene for the first time (i was on elementary school)
and the art was soo pretty
Well as you know Yu Asagiri also became a yaoi mangaka XD
after that i had Sailor Moon and lots other stuff going on
My first Yaoi was Gravitation Anime (not the manga)
Not like other girls who got exposed to yaoi too much young
i see my first yaoi on the 1st grade of university so i was mature enough to process it. Still it was like a new world open up before me i was enlightened LOL
i think i have seen some LGBT content gay or lesbian before in tv drama tho
and i watched with somewhat fascination or curiosity that i didnt really understood
only after i have seen yaoi than my eyes were open
My first yaoi manga was either Boys Next Door by Yuki Kaori or Love Mode
also the first time probably i saw explicit hardcore sex in media on Love Mode! i guess i was pretty innocent before 🙂 (but i did watch titanic like every other teens my time and been exposed to sex scenes in hollywood movies before). Like i wouldn’t have imagine that blow job would be that much exhilarating if it weren’t for yaoi manga.
i did had my denial and down period when i felt guilty and delete all my yaoi stacks (but i end up downloading it again LOL)
but now i think this encounter with Yaoi is one of the best thing that ever happen too me i’m grateful that it allows me to be open minded to see the world
Last a bit off topic compare to above, My first song (or was it 1st foreign song?) that i like was Crazy by Julio iglesias i dont know why haha
but the first song that really resonates with my heart and all those teenage melancholy was Have you ever by Brandy, i cried too this song few times in the past really nostalgic
I know some fans might hate me for bringing this up again , i just would like to share what was in my mind.
When Yuri on Ice was airing there was some theory regarding why victor decided to take a leave from professional ice skating and became Yuuri’s coach. Other than seeing Yuuri viral video was there any other reason that was more personal. One of those theory was it because he is sick like cancer or something.
However Kubo sensei does confirm that she will not make this story a tragedy or sad story instead she wants this story to be overflowing with LOVE and now we know that the real reason Victor came to Hasetsu was because he was smitten by a drunk sexy pool dancer that was Yuuri LOL :p
So please chill and dont make a big deal out of what i’m about to say cause it is most likely not the case
This theory was first brought about when Yuuri touch Victor head and Victor commented about his thin hair. And then on episode 10 i got alarmed because some of the dialog did hinted same possibilities
Now other than the dialog that was mentioned above “If i continued to skate Yurio wouldnt be motivated to fight and neither would I..”
Actually if you understand Japanese, the dialog before was also hinting and pretty intense
When Victor squeeze Yurio face he seems pretty pissed aside from Yurio calling Yuuri Pig etc.. Right before that scene the line Yurio was saying さっさと居なくなるジジ which was translated “Just go away already, geezer” while actually 居なくなる (inaku naru) can also translated into to disappear or to die so if we translated it more harshly it will be “Just go and die already, old geezer” which explain why the always calm and laid back Victor was triggered.
Also the first opening line from yurio in this scene was “viktor nikiforov is dead” so it goes with the flow of the dialog.
Some fans think that victor was offended for Yurio calling the ring from Yuuri as garbage but no that line was said afterward..
So after watching that scene I admit i was very worried about the course that the story may take.
In the interview below however Kubo sensei also explain that she may have thought to make Victor sick but decided not too cause that plot would be too much for a 12 episode anime
Kubo: As a story moves from the middle to the later stages, it’s quite common for the protagonist to have something important to him or her taken away. We thought that it was about the right time to do that. That’s why we had Victor leave Yūri’s side momentarily in episode 8. In a long-running manga serial, it’s quite possible that Victor would fall sick or meet with some kind of accident, but we can’t take such a roundabout route for a one-cour anime. That’s why we had Maccachin steal and eat some buns instead (chuckles).
Well that was my thought but certainly not my hope for any of this to happen i’m just saying the possibility. I do wish that Victor and Yuuri would live very very happy and healthy together until they grow old *cough*marriage*cough*
I think the previous plot might be interesting just for fanfic material or something :p
so yeah looking forward for season two i wish for the best for them,
Peace out ♥
